Sophomore Katherine Bossardet broke the school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, winning the event in 11 minutes and 47.99 seconds, while the Central Connecticut women's track and field team won the Emory Track and Field Classic this weekend in Atlanta, GA. The Blue Devils finished the two day event with 58 points, while the host Eagles took second, scoring 49.
Freshman Amanda Kelley dominated the throwing events as she won the javelin with a toss of 33.73 meters, then recorded a distance of 11.59 meters to grab second place in the shot put. Finally, the Cumberland, RI native placed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 41.2 meters.
Coming off of basketball season, freshman Christie Leverette competed in her first collegiate track meet, taking second place in the high jump. She recorded a distance of 1.61 meters. In her first attempt at the 10,000 meters, sophomore Nicole Coiteux placed fifth, timing in at 41:28.31.
Two Blue Devils placed in the 800 meters, as freshman Amanda Asaro took third and junior Kim Savino placed eighth. Asaro crossed the line in 2:23.72, while Savino finished in 2:29.19.
The CCSU shuttle hurdle relay team of Katina Ainsworth, Sherry Wallace, Renee Archer and Rachel Barth placed third in a time of 1:07.77.
The Blue Devils will next compete at the UMass Six-Way Meet on
Saturday April 11.
