The Central Connecticut women's track & field team was
selected tenth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll
for the outdoor season, released today. The Blue Devils finished
in a tie for 10th out of 11 teams at last year's NEC Outdoor Track
& Field Championships.
Monmouth was selected to finish first by the coaches after placing
second at last year's championships. The Hawks received five of
the eleven first place votes, the same amount that Sacred Heart
totaled. The Pioneers claim the second spot, while Long Island,
this year's indoor runners-up, were picked third and received the
final first place vote.
St. Francis (PA) and Mount St. Mary's round out the top five in the
poll, while Robert Morris, Wagner and Quinnipiac represent the six
through nine spots. The Blue Devils are next, beating out St.
Francis (NY), who tied CCSU last year, and are picked 11th.
Central Connecticut is coming off of a 10th place finish out of 12
teams at this winter's NEC Indoor Championships. Freshman phenom
Amanda Kelley led the Blue Devils in that meet
with a third place finish in the weight throw and an eighth place
in the shot put. Kate McGuire, Kathleen
Lima and Katherine Bossardet also put forth top 10
finishes at the indoor championships. McGuire finished fifth in
the 500 meters, Lima was sixth in the 800 meter run and Bossardet
placed ninth in the 5,000.
CCSU just finished up winning the Emory Classic in their first outdoor meet of the season and will next be competing at the UMass Six Way Meet on Saturday April 11.
