Sophomore Amanda Kelley broke the
school record in the weight throw in her second straight
competition, as Central Connecticut State University competed at
the Lafayette Rider Winter Games on Friday. Kelley won the event
with a distance of 16.24 meters, topping her previous school record
of 16.14 meters set at the Boston Indoor Games. She also added a
third place finish in the shot put, recording a distance of 12.90
meters.
Three other Blue Devils finished in the top 10 in field events on
Friday. Sophomore Amy Sanjurjo and senior Samantha Binette competed in
the long jump. Sanjurjo took ninth place with a jump of 5.05
meters, while Binette was 10th with a mark of 5.03 meters.
Sophomore Amanda Prescott added a
seventh place finish in the triple jump, recording a distance of
10.83 meters.
Sanjurjo was the top performer for Central on the track. The
sophomore placed fourth in the 60 meter dash and seventh in the 200
meters. She recorded times of 7.98 seconds and 26.03 seconds,
respectively. Freshman Dara
Edge added a seventh place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with
a time of 9.49 seconds.
Junior Katherine Bossardet and
freshman Anna
Shields handled the middle distance events for Central
Connecticut. The former placed fifth in the 1,000 meters with a
time of 3:07.89, while the latter took 10th in the 800 meters in
2:22.79.
