Sophomore Amy Sanjurjo placed in the top six in three different events as the Central Connecticut women's track and field team took fourth out of six teams at the UConn Invitational on Saturday. Sanjurjo placed third in long jump and 100 meter dash with marks of 18 feet 0.25 inches and 12.45 seconds, respectively. She also took sixth place in the 200 meter dash after recording a time of 26.31 seconds.
The Blue Devils scored nine team points at the meet, as the Host Huskies took home the title with 115 points. CCSU defeated instate rivals Hartford and Quinnipiac, who placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
Junior Katherine Bossardet also placed third an event. She took the bronze in the 3,000 meter steeple chase with a time of 11:45.91. Sophomore Amanda Kelley put forth the top performances in the throwing events. She placed seventh in the hammer throw with a distance of 142'1" and took eighth in the discus, recording a mark of 122'8".
Senior Samantha Binette joined Sanjurjo in the long jump with a distance of 16'8" to place sixth. Sophomore Amanda Prescott recorded a mark of 35'1" to place sixth in the triple jump.
Three Blue Devils put forth top six performances in 400 meter events on Saturday. Sophomore Kate McGuire and freshman Rachel Dombroski placed fifth and sixth in the 400 meter dash, respectively. The former crossed the line in 59.34 seconds, while the latter finished in 59.70 seconds. Sophomore Katrina Ainsworth placed sixth in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:07.93.
The Blue Devils will next compete at the UMass Invitational on Saturday, April 10.
