Sophomores Amy Sanjurjo and Amanda
Kelley each won events on Sunday as the Central Connecticut
women's track and field team placed fourth out of six teams at Holy
Cross. Sanjurjo won the long jump with a distance of 16 feet 1.75
inches, while Kelley recorded a mark of 41 feet 4.5 inches to take
the shot put. The Blue Devils finished with a team score of 87 to
place fourth in the meet.
Both Sanjurjo and Kelley recorded top five performances in other
events as well on Sunday. The former placed fifth in the 100 meter
dash with a time of 13.25 seconds. The latter was the runner-up in
the discus with a distance of 124'8" and took third place in the
hammer throw, recording a mark of 143'1". Senior Samantha
Binette also placed in a field event. She took fifth in the
long jump with a jump of 15'7.5".
Junior Katherine Bossardet had the
best finish on the track for CCSU on Sunday. She placed second in
the 3,000 meter steeplechase, crossing the line in 11:42.03.
Sophomores Kate McGuire and Katrina
Ainsworth competed in separate 400 meter events for the Blue
Devils. McGuire ran the 400 meter dash in 1:00.74 to place fourth,
while Ainsworth placed fifth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time
of 1:08.12. Freshman Dara
Edge also placed fifth in the 100 meter hurdles to help lead
CCSU. She recorded a time of 16.37 seconds in the event.
Holy Cross won the meet with a team score of 237.50, while Maine
and Hartford finished second and third with totals of 167 and 97,
respectively. CCSU defeated American International (83) and
Stonehill (33.5) to place fourth.
