Women's Track Competes In Day One of NEC Championships

Sophomore Amy Sanjurjo led the Central Connecticut women's track and field team during first day action at the Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday. Sanjurjo qualified for Sunday's action in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. The Blue Devils finished Saturday in 11th place with five total points.

Sanjurjo finished with the sixth best time of the day in the 100 meter dash, crossing the line in 12.23 seconds. She qualified for Sunday's action in both the 100 and the 200 meter dash, in which she recorded a time of 25.92 seconds.

Central's 4x800 meter relay team placed sixth with a time of 9:48.49 on Saturday. The team was comprised of junior Katherine Bossardet, senior Kim Savino, freshman Anna Shields and sophomore Amanda Asaro.

Sophomore Amanda Kelley handled the throwing events for CCSU on Saturday. She placed seventh in the shot put with a distance of 41'4.25". Kelley also was 10th in the hammer throw, recording a mark of 143'4".

The Blue Devils will finish competition at the Championships in Emmitsburg, MD on Sunday.
