Junior Katherine Bossardet led the
team with a third place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase as
the Central Connecticut women's track and field team competed in
the final day of the Northeast Conference Outdoor Championships on
Sunday. Bossardet recorded a time of 11:31.94 in the event, while
the Blue Devils placed 10th with 29 team points.
Monmouth won the championship with 202 team points, while Long
Island and Mount St. Mary's rounded out the top three with scores
of 145 and 101, respectively. Central topped Bryant and St.
Francis (NY) at the league meet.
Both Central Connecticut relays performed well on Sunday. The
4x100 meter relay team of senior Samantha Binette, freshman
Rachel
Dombroski and sophomores Shamone Allien and Amy
Sanjurjo placed fourth. Their time of 47.82 seconds qualified
the squad for the ECAC Championships.
Dombroski and Sanjurjo, along with sophomores Katrina
Ainsworth and Kate McGuire made up the
Blue Devils' 4x400 meter relay team. The squad placed sixth,
recording a time of 4:02.34. Sanjurjo also competed in individual
finals action on Sunday. She took seventh in the 100 meter dash
with a time of 12.35 seconds and crossed the line in 26.11 seconds
to take eighth in the 200 meter dash.
Sophomore Amanda Kelley put forth two
top 10 performances in the field on Sunday. Her throw of 131'11"
placed her fourth in the discus, while her distance of 119'2" was
good enough for ninth in the javelin.
Freshman Nablissa
Lomotey topped Kelley in the javelin by just over a foot,
taking seventh place with a mark of 120'8". Sophomore Amanda
Prescott recorded the final top 10 finish on Sunday. She tied
for ninth with a mark of 4'11" in the high jump.
