The Central Connecticut women's track team has been picked to finish 11th at the 2011 Northeast Conference Indoor Championships. The league's coaches selected the Blue Devils to finish 11th in their pre-championship poll.
Defending champion Long Island was tabbed to finish first once again this year, taking seven of the 12 first place votes. Monmouth earned the remaining five votes after finishing second last year. Sacred Heart, Mount St. Mary's and St. Francis (PA) rounded out the top-five.
Robert Morris, Quinnipiac, Fairleigh Dickinson, Wagner, and Bryant finished in the top-10 in the poll, with the Blue Devils coming in at 11th and St. Francis (NY) at 12th.
Last season the Blue Devils finished 12th at the NEC Championships, but this season the squad has experienced consistent improvement in its first year under Coach Eric Blake. Blake has led the Blue Devil men to consecutive NEC cross country titles, as well as a fifth place finish for the women's team at the 2010 NEC Cross Country Championships in his first season.
The Blue Devils will be led on the track by senior Katherine Bossardet (Distance), junior Amy Sanjurjo (Sprints/Jumps), sophomore Dara Edge (Hurdles/Jumps) and freshman Elizabeth Eberhardt (Distance).
The 2011 NEC Indoor Championships will be held Feb. 12-13, at Prince George's County in Maryland.
