Women?s Track Set to Compete at NEC Indoor Championships

The Central Connecticut women's track team will look to continue improving its performances at this weekend's Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Blue Devils were picked to finish 11th in the NEC Pre-Championship Coaches Poll this year, but Central will still receive some strong performances on the track.

Here is a preview of a few of the Blue Devils top performers so far this season.

Junior Amy Sanjurjo is having a strong season for the Blue Devils. Sanjurjo will compete in the 60 meter dash, 200 meter, and long jump this weekend. So far this season Sanjurjo has posted times of 7.85 seconds in the 60 meters, 26.01 in the 200 meters and in the long jump she has cleared 5.22 meters.

Sophomore Dara Edge has had a strong season in the hurdles and the triple jump. Edge set a school record earlier this season in the hurdles, and her best time so far this season was 9.29 set at the Reebok Indoor Games. In triple jump Edge's best performance was at the Army Carleton Crowell Open where she cleared 10.69 meters.

The Blue Devils will be led by senior Katherine Bossardet and freshman Elizabeth Eberhardt in the distance races. Bossardet has yet to run a 5,000 meter race this season, but the All-Conference cross country performer should have no problem producing a good performance. Eberhardt was named NEC Rookie of the Week on Monday for her performance in the mile at the Giegengack Invitational. The freshman will enter the 3,000 meters this weekend, her best time of the year so far is 10:32.03.

The NEC Indoor Championships start on Saturday morning and continue through Sunday evening. Results will be available on CCSUBlueDevils.com at the conclusion of each day. A complete order of events is available below.
