The Central Connecticut women's track & field team finished ninth with 34.5 points at the Joe Donahue Collegiate Indoor Games on Friday. The multi-team meet, held at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, hosted 14 schools. The Blue Devils finished well ahead of tenth place Stonehill (21 points) and finished 4.5 points behind eighth place Maine.
Senior Alasia Griebel earned ten of Central's 34.5 points winning the 1,000m in a time of 2:56.67. This mark broke Griebel's previous 1,000m CCSU school record of 3:00.57. Freshman Chantelle Deer clocked in at 1:20.89 in the 500m, good for ninth place. A pair of Blue Devils finished top-ten in the one-mile. Senior Amanda Asaro and sophomore Elizabeth Eberhardt placed fourth (5:04.47) and seventh (5:13.25) respectively.
In the relay events, headlining for the Blue Devils was the 4,000m distance medley team comprised of Griebel, Asaro, Eberhardt, and senior Kate McGuire. The squad placed second with a time of 12:20.51, gathering eight points for Central.
Competing in the field for Central was freshman Ronea Saunders who sealed a fourth place tie in the high jump. Saunders chalked-up and impressive height of 1.63m in the event.
The Blue Devils will be back in action on February 3rd and 4th at the Yale Giegengack Invitational in New Haven, CT.
