The Central Connecticut women's track & field team stands in seventh place posting 10 points on day one of the Northeast Conference Championships. The final day will be held on Sunday, May 6th.
Sacred Heart leads the 11 team field with 70 points while Monmouth (47) is second, Robert Morris (28) third, Mount St. Mary's (22) fourth, and St. Francis (PA) (19) along with LIU Brooklyn (19) round out the top-five. The Blue Devils lead eighth place Wagner (8), ninth place Quinnipiac (7), and Fairleigh Dickinson (2) and St. Francis (NY) (2) who are tied for 10th place.
Leading the Blue Devils on the first day of championship competition was sophomore Krisztina Dearborn who placed fourth in the 10,000m crossing the line at 38:06.86.
Senior Amanda Asaro ran the second fastest time in the 800m preliminary round posting a time of 2:16.34. The senior will advance to the event's final round.
Sophomore Meghan Burns qualified for the 400m finals with her 58.71 time in the preliminary heat. Senior Alasia Griebel will run in the 1500m finals after her 4:44.40 qualifying time in the preliminary round.
In the field, sophomore Jess Davis placed fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 2.75m (9'00.25"). The jumper was just 6" away from her own CCSU school record.
