For the first time in program history, the Central Connecticut women's outdoor track and field team was crowned the 2019 Northeast Conference Champions. The team earned a total of 118 points, just half a point ahead of NEC runner-up Sacred Heart, and took home 10 medals.
Senior Sierra Nesmith won the silver in the triple jump (11.91m), the silver in the 400 meter hurdles (1:00.88) and took the silver in the 400 meters with a time of 55.990, four-tenths of a second behind first place winner Angeli Andre.
Junior Megan Brawner put 10 points on the board for the Blue Devils after taking home the gold in the 1,500 meter with a time of 4:44.66.
Senior Dawn Hubbell won the gold in the 5,000 meter run crossing the finish line at 17:37.05. Brawner took the bronze with a 17:49.68 finish.
Junior Hailey Rospierski added five points to the total score with a time of 14.73 in the 100 meter hurdles finishing fifth. Senior McKenna Kilian also competed in the 400 meter hurdles coming in sixth place with a time of 1:03.58.
In the discus, freshman Danyelle Engels finished 12th with a toss of 35.22 meters. She also competed in the shot put posting a throw of 11.14 meters locking up eighth place.
The women's 4x100 meter relay team came in seventh after crossing the finish line in 50.10 seconds.
Hubbell was named the NEC Most Outstanding Performer (distance) following the conclusion of the meet.
