Central Connecticut's volleyball team earned its second straight AVCA Team Academic Award, as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches' Association this afternoon. The Blue Devils were one of 70 NCAA Division I teams to receive the honor, which is given to schools maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average.
"I am very proud of the academic accomplishments our student-athletes have achieved," CCSU head coach Linda Sagnelli said. "The dedication and commitment they have on the court, in the classroom and in the community is exemplary."
Overall a record 353 schools, which include programs from all NCAA ranks, the NAIA, two-year programs and high schools, earned the award.
Central Connecticut will host the Blue Devil Invitational on
Friday and Saturday, Aug. 29-30 to open the 2008 season. The Blue
Devils begin the tournament with a 7 p.m. match-up against Bucknell
