The Central Connecticut volleyball team snapped a seven game losing streak by defeating Hartford 3-1 on Wednesday night at the University of Hartford. Sophomore Lauren Snyder led the Blue Devils with 13 kills and seven digs in the victory.
Hartford got off to a good start in the match and won the opening game, 25-17. CCSU fought back to tie it at 1-1 in sets after defeating the Hawks 25-15 in set number two. The third set was tightly contested with the Blue Devils pulling away at the end to win 27-25 in extra points. The third set victory fueled the fire in Central as they went on to close out the match in a decisive 25-11 final set.
Snyder finished with a game high four blocks to go with her 13 kills and seven digs. Junior Jamie Baumert and senior Amanda Olmstead tallied nine kills each while recording fantastic hitting percentages (.500 and .438 respectively). Baumert finished the match with four blocks while Olmstead recorded three blocks and four service aces.
Sophomore Kaitlin Petrella tallied a game high 11 digs and added two service aces in the victory. Sophomore Amanda Bayer finished with a team high 31 assists and had seven digs for the Blue Devils.
Hartford juniors Maddison Molyneux and Erin Macro led the Hawks with 12 kills each, while sophomore Lindsay Ford finished with a match high 35 assists to go along with five digs.
CCSU is now 4-9 on the season and will next be playing host to
Rhode Island on Tuesday October 7 at 7:00 p.m. Hartford falls to
5-12 this year and will next be on the road at Binghamton on Sunday
October 5 at 1:00 p.m.
