CCSU Volleyball Earns Academic Award For 3rd Straight Year
The Central Connecticut volleyball team earned its third
consecutive AVCA Team Academic Award, as announced by the American
Volleyball Coaches' Association. The Blue Devils were one of 71
NCAA Division I teams to receive the honor, which is given to
schools maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point
average.
"I am extremely proud of the academic accomplishments our
student-athletes have achieved," CCSU head coach Linda Sagnelli
said. "The dedication and commitment they have demonstrated in
order to receive this honor three years in a row is
exemplary."
The Blue Devils put forth a team GPA of 3.52 for the semester,
which is the highest mark for any CCSU volleyball squad. Overall a
record 409 schools, which include programs from all NCAA ranks, the
NAIA, two-year programs and high schools, earned the award.
Central Connecticut will host the Blue Devil Invitational on
Friday and Saturday, Sep. 4-5 to open the 2009 season. The Blue
Devils begin the tournament with a 4 p.m. match-up against
Manhattan on Friday.
