The Central Connecticut State University volleyball team outblocked Sacred Heart eight to zero, but gave up a hitting percentage of .258 to the Pioneers and lost by a score of 3-0 in the Blue Devils' final match at the Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday. Junior Maite Mendizabal led the way for CCSU with eight kills, while junior Kaitlin Petrella added a match-best 17 digs in the defeat.
The Blue Devils received six blocks from senior captain Jamie Baumert, who now has 41 on the season. Junior Tori Vaughan and freshman Emily Cochran helped on the offensive side with six kills each, while junior captain Amanda Bayer tallied 25 assists and three blocks in the defeat.
Baumert and Bayer were named to the All-Tournament team after the final match on Saturday. Central falls to 3-7 on the season and will next play host to Quinnipiac on Wednesday September 23 at 7:00 p.m.
