Senior captain Jamie Baumert and freshman Emily Cochran received Northeast Conference weekly honors for their performances during Central Connecticut State University's 3-1 week. Baumert was named NEC Player of the Week, while Cochran garnered Rookie of the Week accolades. This marks the first Player of the Week honor for Baumert this season and second in her career. Cochran receives her first weekly conference honor in just her fourth week of collegiate competition.
Baumert recorded 43 kills, or 2.69 per set, in CCSU's four matches this week. She led CCSU in kills in two out of the three Blue Devil wins. The senior tallied 13 to lead Central over Quinnipiac at home on Wednesday and then recorded 15 kills in the Blue Devils' road victory over the Bobcats on Saturday. Baumert improved on her NEC-leading hitting percentage, as she recorded a mark of .469 during the week. She added an astounding 23 blocks during the 3-1 week for CCSU, giving her 64 on the season.
Cochran recorded 42 kills and 45 digs to lead Central to its 3-1 record this week. The freshman tallied a team high 17 kills and 16 digs in the Blue Devils' five set victory over Binghamton on Saturday. She was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performances against the Bearcats and the host Bulldogs at the Yale Invitational over the weekend.
CCSU is now 6-8 on the season and 2-0 in league play. The Blue Devils will return to the court on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. match with the University of Hartford at Detrick Gymnasium.
