Petrella Breaks School Record In Blue Devil Loss at Columbia
Junior Kaitlin Petrella broke the school record for digs in a career, but Central Connecticut State University fell to Columbia on the road by a score of 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-19) on Wednesday night. The libero tallied 10 digs in the match to move past former Blue Devil Jennifer Moshier into first place all-time in CCSU annals. Petrella leads Central with 259 digs on the season and now has 1,219 for her career.
Sophomore Sara DeLacey and freshman Mary Kate Schmidt led CCSU with seven kills in the match. DeLacey also recorded a match-best four blocks, while Schmidt tallied 10 digs for the Central defense. Junior captain Amanda Bayer led CCSU with 24 assists and a match high 15 digs. Senior captain Jamie Baumert and freshman Blaike King chipped in six kills each.
Columbia was led Megan Gaughn with 13 kills, while Kelsey Musselman recorded a match-best 31 assists for the Lions.
The Blue Devils fall to 8-9 on the season and will next play at St. Francis (PA) on Saturday October 10.
