Volleyball Improves to 5-0 In Northeast Conference After Topping Robert Morris 3-2

Central Connecticut State University came back from a 2-0 deficit to top Robert Morris by a score of 3-2 (23-25, 25-27, 25-20, 25-13, 15-8) on Sunday afternoon in Moon Township, PA. It marked the first regular season Northeast Conference loss for the Colonials since the 2007 season. CCSU junior Tori Vaughan recorded 10 kills and 11 blocks to keep the Blue Devils undefeated in NEC play with a conference record of 5-0.

Central fell behind 2-0 after losing the first two sets by scores of 25-23 and 27-25. With their backs against the wall the Blue Devils won the third set, 25-20. CCSU then went on a roll and cruised to a 25-13 fourth set victory to extend the match to a fifth and final set. With a 15-8 fifth set win, CCSU improved to 10-9 on the season, while Robert Morris fell to 6-15 overall and 3-1 in the NEC.

Vaughan's 11 blocks were a match-best and sophomore Sara DeLacey tallied another nine blocks to lead Central to the win. Senior captain Jamie Baumert led the Blue Devil offense with a match high 18 kills, while DeLacey added eight and freshman Emily Cochran tallied 10.

Junior Kaitlin Petrella recorded 26 digs, a match-best, while four other Blue Devils were also in double figures. Junior captain Amanda Bayer and freshman Blaike King each finished with 17, while Cochran and sophomore Danielle Gasser chipped in with 11 digs. Bayer added a team high 38 assists for CCSU.

Central will return home for a non-conference match with Providence on Wednesday October 14 at 7:00 p.m.
