CCSU Volleyball Earns Academic Award for the Fourth Straight Season
The Central Connecticut volleyball team earned its fourth consecutive AVCA Team Academic Award, as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches' Association. The Blue Devils were one of 94 NCAA Division I teams to receive the honor, which is given to schools maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average.
"I am extremely proud of this accomplishment by our student-athletes," CCSU head coach Linda Sagnelli said. "Year after year they have demonstrated that they are student-athletes in the truest form. I am impressed with their commitment in the classroom, as well as the effort they put in on the volleyball court each season."
The Blue Devils put forth a team GPA of 3.718, which is the highest mark for any CCSU volleyball squad. Overall over 400 schools, which include programs from all NCAA ranks, the NAIA, two-year programs and high schools, earned the award.
The Blue Devils open the 2010 volleyball season on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 3-4, with a trip to Buffalo where they will play in a tournament with Delaware State, Buffalo and the Naval Academy. They will also play in tournaments at Columbia and Brown to open the 2010 campaign.
