The Central Connecticut volleyball team earned its fourth
consecutive AVCA Team Academic Award, as announced by the American
Volleyball Coaches' Association. The Blue Devils were one of 94
NCAA Division I teams to receive the honor, which is given to
schools maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point
average.
"I am extremely proud of this accomplishment by our
student-athletes," CCSU head coach Linda Sagnelli said. "Year after
year they have demonstrated that they are student-athletes in the
truest form. I am impressed with their commitment in the
classroom, as well as the effort they put in on the volleyball
court each season."
The Blue Devils put forth a team GPA of 3.718, which is the
highest mark for any CCSU volleyball squad. Overall over 400
schools, which include programs from all NCAA ranks, the NAIA,
two-year programs and high schools, earned the award.
The Blue Devils open the 2010 volleyball season on Friday and
Saturday, Sept. 3-4, with a trip to Buffalo where they will play in
a tournament with Delaware State, Buffalo and the Naval Academy.
They will also play in tournaments at Columbia and Brown to open
the 2010 campaign.
