Volleyball Defeats Northeast Conference Rival St. Francis (NY) 3-0
The Central Connecticut Volleyball team defeated NEC rival St. Francis (NY) 3-0 today at Detrick Gymnasium. The Blue Devils improve to 4-12 on the season and 2-3 in Northeast Conference action. The Blue Devils won 25-19, 25-17, and 25-12 in three sets, and were led by sophomore Emily Cochran who had 15 digs and nine kills in the match.
The first set was the closest of the match, St. Francis and Central were tied at 15 before Central pulled away for the 25-19 victory. The Blue Devils dominated defensively posting 10 blocks in the set. Senior Amanda Bayer had nine assists, while sophomore Blaike King and senior Tori Vaughan led Central on the attack with three kills each.
The Blue Devils continued to control the action in the second set winning 25-17. Cochran recorded team highs of six kills and five digs for the set, and Bayer led with 15 assists.
Central dominated the third set posting another eight blocks, as St. Francis made several costly errors. Vaughan recorded kills on five of her eight attacks to led the Blue Devils to a 25-12 win in the set. Bayer added another ten assists, as the team scored on 12 of 25 attacks in the deciding set.
Vaughan had six blocks in the match to lead the Blue Devils, with sophomore Jamie Rademacher and Junior Sara DeLacey each recording five. Bayer led the team in assists with 34 and Cochran, King and Vaughan each recorded a match high nine kills for Central.
The Blue Devils return to action Wednesday, at Providence College.
