The Central Connecticut volleyball team fell to Sacred Heart in five sets on Wednesday night. Central is now 9-17 on the season and 6-8 in NEC action. The Blue Devils dropped the opening two sets before rebounding to win the third and fourth, but fell 15-13 in a close final set. Junior Sara DeLacey had 15 kills to lead the Blue Devils.
Sacred Heart took the first set 25-23 and the second set 25-18 to take a comanding two sets to none lead. But the Blue Devils never quit and came back to even the match at two all.
In the third set the Blue Devils were led by Sara DeLacey who had four kills in the set. DeLacey, senior Maite Mendizabal and sophomore Jamie Rademacher played strong defense throughout the match to keep the Blue Devils close, as Central pulled out the 25-19 victory.
DeLacey led the Blue Devils again in the fourth set going four of six on the attack and contributing to 3 blocks as Central won 25-22.
The Blue Devils dropped a back in fourth final set 15-13, but registered another four blocks to give the team a total of 21 for the match.
Senior Amanda Bayer had 35 assists and 21 digs in the match and DeLacey had 15 kills to led the Blue Devils in the match.
The Blue Devil return to action on Saturday when they host Long Island at 1 p.m. at Detrick Gym.
