Volleyball Sweeps Delaware St.

The Central Connecticut volleyball team swept Delaware State in their opening match of the Dartmouth Invitational.  The Blue Devils improve to 6-4 on the season with the victory.  Junior Blaike King led the way with 14 kills in the match.

The Blue Devils took the opening set by a score of 25-12.  King tallied six of her kills in the set, but it was senior Sara DeLacey who posted a 1.000 hitting percentage in the set.  She was four-of-four on the attack and also picked up a block.

In the second set King added another seven kills and classmate Emily Cochran picked up five kills on 13 attacks for a .385 hitting percentage.  DeLacey recorded another block in the set, by once again teaming up with junior Jennifer Waddill.  The Blue Devils won 25-23 in what was the closest set of the match.

Central wrapped up the match with a 25-20 third set victory.  This time it was Cochran delivering a set-high five kills.  DeLacey contributed four kills on only six attacks in the set.   The Blue Devils posted a pair of blocks in the set, with senior Danielle Gasser, junior Jamie Rademacher, DeLacey, and Waddill all contributing.

Defensively the Blue Devils recorded five blocks and three players recorded double-digit digs.  Freshman Brittany Schumacher led the way with 17 digs, while Cochran posted 14 and King 11. Gasser finished with a match-high 37 assists.

King led the offense with 14 kills.  Cochran was the only other Blue Devil in double figures with 11, but DeLacey posted eight kills and Rademacher seven.

The Blue Devils will return to action tomorrow at the Dartmouth Invitational.  They will face off with the hosts and with the Friars of Providence College.
