Volleyball Earns Saturday Split

The Central Connecticut volleyball team wrapped up play at the Dartmouth Invitational with a 3-1 victory over Providence College.  The win improves the Blue Devils to 7-5 on the season and 2-1 in the tournament.  The Blue Devils were led by a trio of juniors who registered double-digit kills.

The Blue Devils took set one (25-21), three (27-25) and four (25-20) to earn the victory.  They dropped the second set to the Friars by a score of 25-19.

Junior Emily Cochran recorded a match-high 17 kills, classmate Jamie Rademacher recorded 14 kills and Blaike King added 13 kills.  King had posted 14 kills in the Blue Devils first match of the day.  Setting for the Blue Devils was senior Danielle Gasser who posted a match-high 56 assists.

Five Blue Devils posted double-digit digs in the four set match.  Freshman Brittany Schumacher posteda match-high 27 digs, Cochran contributed 22 digs, King 17, sophomore Amalia Ashley 13 and Gasser 11.

The Blue Devils also recorded nine blocks in the match.  Junior Jennifer Waddill contributed to four of the blocks, with Rademacher helping on another three.  In all, six Blue Devils helped out with blocking at the net.

The Blue Devils return to action this Wednesday when they host Holy Cross at 7 p.m. in Detrick Gym.
