Volleyball Takes Down SFPA in Five Sets

The Central Connecticut volleyball team defeated St. Francis (PA) in five sets on Saturday afternoon.  The Blue Devils captured the match by taking the fourth and fifth sets after falling behind 2-1.  The wins improve the Blue Devils to 11-7 and 3-2 in the Northeast Conference.  Junior Emily Cochran finished with a match-high 18 kills for the Blue Devils.

The Blue Devils took an early lead on the Red Flash with a 25-17 victory in the first set.  Four Central players recorded a pair of kills in the set and junior Jamie Rademacher chipped in on all four of the team's blocks.

After dropping the second and third sets the Blue Devils rebounded taking the fourth set 25-21 and the fifth set 15-13.

Cochran stepped up in the fourth set with six kills and senior Sara DeLacey added another four.  DeLacey also chipped in on a pair of blocks with freshman Emma Le Maitre.

In the final set, Cochran picked up six of Central's 15 points with kills.

Le Maitre finished four-of-seven on the attack with no errors for a .571 hitting percentage.  She also contributed to seven blocks, along with DeLacey's nine.  As a team the Blue Devils totaled 13 blocks compared to St. Francis's seven.

The 11 victories this season match Central's total from the 2010 season.

The Blue Devils return to action tomorrow with a 1 p.m. match against Robert Morris University.
