Volleyball Defeats FDU, 3-1

The Central Connecticut volleyball team defeated Fairleigh Dickinson in four sets on Saturday afternoon.  The Blue Devils dropped the opening set, but rebounded to take three straight sets for the victory.  Junior Blaike King led the way 16 kills. The victory improves the Blue Devils to 16-9 on the season an 7-4 in NEC play.

The Blue Devils dropped the opening set 25-20, but rebounded for a dominating 25-11 second set victory.  Central continued its strong play into the third and fourth sets, taking those 25-22 and 25-19, respectively.

King led the offense throughout the day she tied for a team-high with 16 kills and delivered a .387 hitting percentage.  Junior Emily Cochran also had 16 kills in the match.  Senior Sara DeLacey chipped in with a .583 hitting percentage, connecting on eight kills in 12 attacks with only one error.

On the defensive side of the net, DeLacey and junior Jamie Rademacher each contributed to four blocks.  Senior Danielle Gasser and freshman Emma Le Maitre each helped on three blocks as the Blue Devils totaled 11.0 as a team.

Freshman libero Brittany Schumacher led the squad with 20 digs in the match.  In all, four Blue Devils totaled double-digit digs.  Joining Schumacher's 20 were Gasser with 14, sophomore Ashley Amalia with 13 and Cochran with 11.

Gasser posted a match-high 41 assists.  She now has 982 assists on the season.

Central entered today's action in fourth place in the Northeast Conference.  The victory puts the Blue Devils two games ahead of FDU who began the day in fifth place.  The Blue Devils will return to action tomorrow with a match at Quinnipiac.
