Volleyball in Third Place after Win
The Central Connecticut volleyball team defeated Robert Morris in four sets on Sunday afternoon. The victory moves the Blue Devils ahead of the Colonials and into sole possession of third place in the Northeast Conference standings. Central is now 19-9 on the season and 10-4 in NEC play.
The Blue Devils dropped the opening set, but responded by taking the next three sets from the Colonials. All four sets were decided by less than five points, with the Blue Devils taking sets 25-22, 25-23, and 26-24 for the victory. Robert Morris won its set by a score of 25-21.
Junior Jamie Rademacher led the offense for the second straight day. She delivered 18 kills with a .571 hitting percentage. Her classmates Emily Cochran and Blaike King also contributed on the attack posting 18 and 13 kills, respectively.
Rademacher came alive in the third set as the Blue Devils took control of the match with a 25-23 victory, which gave Central the 2-1 advantage. She went seven-of-nine on the attack with no errors and posted her highest single-set hitting percentage of the day, a .778 mark.
Being the last home game of the season for Central, both seniors Danielle Gasser and Sara DeLacey were recognized before the game. Both seniors responded with great performances on the court in their final home match. Gasser led all players with 54 assists and DeLacey contributed to five blocks while also recording nine kills with a .471 hitting percentage.
Five Blue Devils combined for 8.0 total blocks in the match. In addition to DeLacey's five, freshman Emma Le Maitre also chipped in on five.
The Blue Devils will play their final matches of the regular season on the road at St. Francis (NY) and Long Island next weekend. The NEC Tournament will be played November 19 and 20, and will be hosted by the highest seed.
