The Central Connecticut women's volleyball team defeated St. Francis (NY) in five sets on Saturday afternoon. The victory was the 200th for Coach Linda Sagnelli since taking over the Blue Devil volleyball program before the 2000 season. With the win, the Blue Devils improve to 20-9 on the season and 11-4 in Northeast Conference play.
The Blue Devils earned victories in the first third and fifth sets. Central's winning sets were by scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 15-11. The Blue Devils held a large advantage in hitting percentage in the sets they won. Junior Emily Cochran led the offense with a .314 hitting percentage and 21 kills.
In the decisive fifth set, Cochran landed five kills on 10 attacks with no errors. The .500 hitting percentage was her best mark for a set in the match. On defense, freshman Emma Le Maitre contributed to a pair of blocks that helped the Blue Devils clinch the final set.
For Sagnelli, the victory is her 200th with the Blue Devils. The victory also gave her squad a 20-win season for the fourth time.
The Blue Devils will play at Long Island tomorrow. Both teams have already qualified for next weekend's NEC Tournament.
