Sophomore Rachel Dunlap and freshman Makenna Lommori earned weekly honors from the Northeast Conference on Monday morning. Dunlap was named the Molten/NEC Player of the Week after hitting .607 over two matches last week and Lommori earns her third consecutive Molten/NEC Rookie of the Week honor after recording 87 assists. Dunlap and Lommori helped the Blue Devil volleyball team to a pair of victories and a 2-0 start to conference play.
Dunlap recorded 19 kills last week thanks to consistent play over two matches. She recorded nine kills and a .727 hitting percentage against St. Francis (NY) on Saturday. On Sunday, she followed with 10 kills and a .529 hitting percentage against Fairleigh Dickinson.
Defensively, Dunlap recorded 8.0 total blocks and averaged 1.14 blocks per set. On Saturday, she assisted on three blocks and then against FDU she delivered a solo block and assisted on four others to total five blocks in the match. She also contributed four digs against FDU.
Lommori continued her exceptional play by recording 87 assists over two matches last week. She posted 43 assists against St. Francis (NY) and followed it with 44 at FDU on Sunday. Her 87 assists over seven sets worked out to a 12.43 assist/set average. She also contributed nine kills to the offense.
Lommori also pitched in on defense with 11 digs and 5.0 total blocks in the two matches.
Dunlap currently ranks near the top of the NEC in hitting percentage and blocks. While Lommori is fourth in the conference in assists per set with 8.24.
The Blue Devils will host a pair of NEC contests at Detrick Gym this weekend. On Saturday, CCSU will play host to Robert Morris and on Sunday the Blue Devils will face St. Francis (PA). Both games are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
