Volleyball Earns 3-1 Victory Over SFPA

The Central Connecticut volleyball team used a strong defensive effort to defeat Saint Francis (PA) in four sets on Sunday.  The Blue Devils recorded 15 blocks as a team and limited the Red Flash to a .097 hitting percentage.

The Blue Devils (8-9, 3-1 NEC) won the first set 25-21 and the second set 25-13, but fell 28-26 in a back and forth third set that required extra points.  CCSU rebounded to take the match with a 25-12 victory in the fourth set.

Central was able to limit the Red Flash (6-10, 2-1 NEC) offense to a .097 hitting percentage and just 44 kills over four sets.

The Blue Devils also recorded 15 blocks as a team.  The duo of senior Jamie Rademacher and freshman Makenna Lommori led CCSU's net defense.  Rademacher assisted on 10 blocks and registered a solo block.  Lommori chipped in on eight blocks, most of the time teaming with Rademacher.

The Blue Devil offense was led by Rademacher, senior Emily Cochran and sophomore Rachel Dunlap who all recorded double-digit kills.  Cochran led the group with 12, Rademacher had 11 and Dunlap 10.  Dunlap led all players with a .500 hitting percentage in the match, she connected on 10 of 18 attacks with just one error.

Lommori posted a match-high 41 assists and contributed 10 digs.

Joining Lommori with double-digit digs was Cochran with 11 and sophomore Brittany Schumacher who posted a match-high 16.

The Blue Devils played their best in the fourth set building a 7-3 lead and then expanding it to 19-12.  Junior Veronika Ban served the final six points for the Blue Devils and recorded three aces, including the final point of the match.

The Blue Devils return to action on Wednesday night at Sacred Heart.  That match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
