Volleyball Sweeps, King Kills 1,000th
The Central Connecticut volleyball team earned a three set victory over St. Francis (NY) on Saturday afternoon. Senior Blaike King recorded her 1,000th career kill late in the first set and helped lead the Blue Devils with eight kills in the match.
Central earned set victories by scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-14.
The Blue Devil (12-10, 8-2 NEC) offense posted an excellent .352 hitting percentage in the match. Central connected for 42 kills on 91 total attacks with senior Jamie Rademacher leading the squad with nine kills and sophomore Rachel Dunlap posting a .500 hitting percentage.
Eight Blue Devils recorded multiple kills in the match led by Rademacher's nine. Senior Emily Cochran and King had eight kills, Dunlap (6), freshman Makenna Lommori (4), freshman Heather Trueman (3), senior Jennifer Waddill (2) and junior Veronika Ban (2) all contributed multiple kills in the match.
Defensively, the Blue Devils were led by Lommori, Dunlap, Rademacher and King. Lommori assisted on three blocks and had a solo, Dunlap assisted on three, Rademacher and King each contributed to a pair of blocks.
Lommori assisted on 36 of the Blue Devils 42 kills, including King's 1,000th in the first set. Ahead 21-13 in the first set, Lommori set King, who delivered her second kill of the match and the 1,000th of her career.
Offensively, the Blue Devils played their best in the third set. CCSU collected 17 kills on 35 attacks with just four errors in the set. The Blue Devils .371 hitting percentage in the third was their best of the day.
The Blue Devils will host Fairleigh Dickinson tomorrow afternoon at Detrick Gym. That match will begin at 1 p.m.
