Woycik Named NEC Volleyball Rookie of the Year; Fish Earns All-NEC Second Team

Freshman Morgan Woycik and senior Rachel Fish of the Central Connecticut volleyball team earned All-Northeast Conference recognition at the league's pret-tournament banquet held on the eve of the postseason tournament in Fairfield, CT. Woycik was named the NEC Rookie of the Year and earned All-NEC First Team honors, while Fish was named to the All-NEC Second Team. 


Woycik made an immediate impact, leading the Blue Devils with 259 kills and 2.51 kills/set. The top newcomer in the conference, she ranked 10th in hitting percentage in conference games with a .237 mark. In league games only, Woycik ranked eighth with 2.85 kills/set. She recorded at least 10 kills in a match 12 times, including a season-high 18 against LIU Brooklyn on November 6.

Woycik was named Molten/NEC Rookie of the Week on three occasions and was also named the Player of the Week on Oct. 10. Woycik is the fifth player in CCSU to be named NEC Rookie of the Year.

Fish capped a remarkable career by earned All-NEC Second Team honors. Fish became just the third player in program-history to collect more than 1,300 digs and currently ranks second all-time at CCSU with 1,377 digs. Her 437 digs this season is among the all-time single-season marks in school-history.

In conference play, Fish ranks sixth with 4.32 digs/set and helped CCSU rank among the league leaders by holding opponents to a .162 hitting percentage. Fish recorded at least 20 digs in a match seven times as a senior and was named Molten/NEC Defensive Player of the Week on September 26.

The fourth-seeded Blue Devils will take on top-seeded Sacred Heart in the NEC Tournament semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 19, in a match slated for a 5:00 p.m. start.
