Central Connecticut senior middle-blocker standout, Maddie Smith, was named to the 2017-18 CoSIDA Academic All-District I Team on Thursday, Nov. 16.
Smith currently holds a 3.96 GPA and is pursuing a degree in Marketing. The Pleasanton, California native is a two-time Northeast Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and Northeast Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll selection.
On and off the court Smith has played a key role in the Blue Devils' success thus far in their 2017 campaign. The veteran leads the NEC in blocks per set and hitting percentage, averaging 1.46 denials and finishing off .399 of her hits.
Just two weeks ago on Nov. 3, the team leader rejected a program-tying record 14 blocks against the Sacred Heart Pioneers in five sets in a pivotal road victory.
In 25 matches this year Smith averages 1.7 kills per set and has accumulated 170 kills to date with the 2017 Northeast Conference Tournament just one day away. The senior has 60 digs and scored 261.5 points for CCSU.
Smith and the 2017 Northeast Conference Co-Regular Season Champions, Central Connecticut, will face Bryant at the tournament's host, LIU Brooklyn, tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. in the NEC Semifinal match.
