Women's XC Receives All-Academic Team Honors

The Central Connecticut women's cross country team was honored for their academic achievements as an NCAA All-Academic Team for the second straight year, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday.

For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade point average.

"I am so thrilled for this team," said head coach Brenda Webb. "The women set this as a team goal before the season and it makes me so glad that they were able to go out and achieve their goals this year."

Of the 394 Division I schools that sponsor women's cross country, 160 programs are represented on the list. The selected teams on the list include four from the Northeast Conference. Along with CCSU, Sacred Heart, Monmouth, and Quinnipiac received the honors. South Carolina led all schools with a team GPA of 3.767. The University of Washington, the 2008 NCAA Champion, was named the Scholar Team of the Year for their performance on and of the course.
