The Central Connecticut women's cross country team opened its season at the 22nd annual Blue Devil Invitational, held at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain. The top five runners for the host Blue Devils all finished in the top 50, good for a seventh place finish in the team standings.
The Providence College Lady Friars won the team competition with Mary Kate Champagne and Sam Roecker taking first and second place respectively. In all the Friars had five runners place in the top ten of the women's 5K. Northeast Conference rival Quinnipiac took second place, and the University of Connecticut rounded out the top three in the women's race.
The Blue Devils were led by freshman Elizabeth Eberhardt who finished 20th overall with a time of 18:47. Senior Katherine Bossardet was the second Blue Devil to cross the line finishing 27th in 19:11. Senior Nicole Coiteux, freshman Megan MacBryde and junior Amanda Asaro rounded out the top five for the Blue Devils with times of 19:40, 19:47, and 19:53 respectively.
The women's cross country team will return to action next week at the Hartford Riverfront Cross Country Festival, hosted by the University of Hartford.
