Women's XC 4th at Saint Francis U.
The Central Connecticut women's cross country team came in fourth at the Father Bede Invitational hosted by Saint Francis U. on Saturday. Junior Shannon McBride was the first Blue Devil to cross the finish line, placing 11th overall with her time of 20:11.
Each of the Blue Devils' top-five finishers placed among the top 30 overall in a field of 91 competitors. McBride, the only upperclassman in the pack, led the young squad and was followed by sophomore Caylee Richardson, who crossed the finish line in 23rd place with a time of 21:03.
Rounding out the top five scorers for Central was a trio of Blue Devils who crossed the finish line within four seconds. Sophomore Ally Gates (21:06), freshman Sarah Woxholdt (21:08) and sophomore Jazmin Booker (21:10) placed 25th, 26th and 27th, respectively.
Sacred Heart won the race with a total of 45 team points and was followed by Bryant (54), Robert Morris (96) and CCSU (108). Behind Central was Fairleigh Dickinson in fifth with 160, Wagner (164), Mount St. Mary's (174) and Saint Francis U. (175). Saint Francis Brooklyn (191) and Pitt-Johnstown (290) placed ninth and 10th, respectively.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Oct. 12 at the New England Championships in Boston, MA followed by their second home meet of the season, the CCSU Mini Meet, on Oct. 25. The Blue Devils will return to Saint Francis U. for the NEC Championships on Nov. 2.
