The Central Connecticut women's cross country team completed the CCSU Mini Meet, a 3K course, in ninth place on Friday afternoon at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT. The race served as the final tune-up before the Blue Devils compete at the Northeast Conference Championships next weekend at Saint Francis U.
Junior Shannon McBride was the first Blue Devil to cross the finish line for the fifth consecutive meet. McBride paced Central with her time of 10:27.34, good for 20th place in the field of 137.
McBride was followed by sophomore Ally Gates, who placed 28th, clocking a time of 10:36.21 and sophomore Jazmin Booker crossed the finish line in 10:46.17, good for 45th. Classmates Brandy LeClair (10:56.31) and Caylee Richardson (11:02.67) rounded out the top five for Central, coming in 57th and 64th, respectively.
Also competing for the Blue Devils in the race was junior Taylor LePage who finished 93rd with her time of 11:24.47, freshmen Alexis Conte (11:36.85) and Paxton McNierney (11:56.96) as well as sophomore Tricia Quinn (12:22.44).
CCSU tallied 198 team points on the day. Providence and UMASS-Amherst tied for the win with 78 points apiece, followed by Bryant in third (117). New Hampshire (129) and Binghampton (138) rounded out the top five.
The Blue Devils return to action this Saturday, Nov. 2 when they travel to Saint Francis U for the 2013 Northeast Conference Championships.
