Men's Basketball Comes Away With Win at UMass on Wednesday
The Central Connecticut men's basketball team got a career-high 18 points from Devin Haid and won, 73-69, over UMass at the Mullins Center in Amherst, MA, on Wednesday. Four Blue Devils would score in double-figures in the game and the CCSU defense held the Minutemen scoreless over the final 2:11.
Haid was 6-of-12 shooting in the game and added six rebounds, while pouring in 13 of his points in the second half. Jayden Brown finished with 12 points, while Joe Ostrowsky and Davonte Sweatman each added 10 points. CCSU was 28-of-60 (.467) shooting overall and 9-of-26 (.346) from three-point range. The Blue Devils were 8-of-11 (.727) at the foul line.
Daniel Rivera led UMass with 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Minutemen shot 24-of-60 (.400) overall and 8-of-25 (.320) on three-pointers. UMass was 13-of-17 (.765) at the foul line.

KEY MOMENTS
- Devin Haid lifted the lid on the game's scoring with a three-pointer and CCSU would hold the lead for the opening 7:33 of the game before UMass took its first lead of the night. The Blue Devils would break a 17-17 tie with a 7-0 spurt over a span of 1:27. Jayden Brown would account for all seven points and his three-pointer made it 24-17 at the 7:13 mark.
- UMass scored eight unanswered points to go ahead 28-26 with 3:03 to go in the period. Central would get five straight points from Davonte Sweatman and a layup by Haid to take a five-point lead with 48 seconds left in the half. A three-pointer by the Minutemen made it 33-31 at the break.
- The Blue Devils would hit 5-of-7 shots to open the second half to open a double-digit lead. Joe Ostrowsky opened the half with a three-pointer that opened a 14-5 spurt. James Jones' trifecta with 15:20 remaining made it 47-36.
- A three-point play by Sweatman put Central ahead, 54-47, with 8:25 to play. The Minutemen responded with back-to-back three-pointers and would cut the lead to one after Rahsool Diggins made it 54-53 with 7:56 to play. A putback on the next possession gave UMass the lead and the teams would trade leads seven times in the following 2:20 until a three-point play by UMass's Daniel Rivera made it 63-61.
- Sweatman would knot the score with a pair of foul shots and a three-point play by Haid would put Central back in front, 70-67, with 2:31 remaining. The Minutemen hit a pair of foul shots on the next possession to get within a point, but the Blue Devils would hold them to 0-of-2 shooting and force a turnover in the final 2:11 to seal the victory.

2 – The Blue Devils' largest deficit in the game was two points and they trailed for just 3:40 in recording their second win over an Atlantic 10 program this season.
NOTES
- Haid is averaging 15.0 ppg and 7.5 rpg in the last two contests. He also has six assists and just one turnover over 63:20 of action in a pair of wins.
- Momoh scored nine of his points after halftime on 4-of-5 shooting. In the past two games he has scored 20 points on 9-of-10 shooting in the second half.
- Sweatman added five assists, without a turnover, in 27 minutes off the bench.
- Central held a 21-6 edge in fast break scoring and led for 31:01 in the game.
- The win snapped a four-game slide in the series and was CCSU's first win in the series since 2011. UMass leads the all-time series, 9-8.
