Blue Devils Place 5th of 14 Teams as Hosts of CCSU Mini Meet

Junior Ry Sanderson ran to a new personal record in a five kilometer race and the Central Connecticut men's cross country team finished fifth out of 14 teams at the Sixth Annual CCSU Mini Meet at Stanley Quarter Park on Saturday morning. The junior captain finished in fifth place, with a time of 15 minutes and three seconds, which marks his best 5K time in cross country or track.

The Blue Devils, who ran five freshmen, a sophomore and a junior, tallied 138 points in the race. They were 23 points behind NEC foe Wagner in fourth and 33 points ahead of Brown in sixth place. The University of New Hampshire took home the team title, placing four runners in the top ten and finishing with 45 total points. Stony Brook and Providence were second and third, respectively.

Other top finishers for CCSU were freshman Kevin Tiernan in 22nd (15:47), freshman Sam Alexander in 32nd (15:55), sophomore Rob Weston placing 33rd (15:56) and freshman Dan Watson coming in at 47th with a time of 16:10.

Stony Brook's Alex Felce took home the individual championship, beating out Providence's Michael Anderson by five seconds. The Seawolves' junior finished in a time of 14 minutes and 44 seconds.

CCSU will now gear up for the Northeast Conference Championship Meet on Saturday November 1 in Holmdel, NJ.
