Sanderson Places 3rd, Blue Devils Finish 7th at NEC

Junior Ry Sanderson ran to a third place finish and received all-conference honors for his performance at Saturday's Northeast Conference Men's Cross Country Championships. His time of 26 minutes and 46 seconds over the five mile course helped Central Connecticut to a seventh place finish out of the 12 teams in competition at Monmouth University.

The Quinnipiac men won their third NEC Title in a row, placing four runners in the top 12 overall, and totaling 52 points. Mount St. Mary's finished second with 76 points and three harriers in the top 13, each receiving All-NEC honors. Sacred Heart rounded out the top three with 102 points.

Quinnipiac freshman Richard Klauber won the individual race with a time of 26:20, earning him both Outstanding Performer and Freshman of the Year honors. Sacred Heart's John Kenworthy took second place overall, beating out Sanderson by 13 seconds. Mount St. Mary's duo of Kyle Ryan and Dylan Bernard finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Besides Sanderson, the rest of CCSU's top five finishers were freshmen. The future looks bright for this young team. Sam Alexander finished 21st with a time of 27:45, while Kevin Tiernan placed 32nd in a time of 28:06. Jeremy Schmid was fourth for the Blue Devils, finishing in 28:20 and placing 45th. Dan Watson rounded out the CCSU top five, getting 48th place in a time of 28:29.

Central will next be competing at the NCAA Cross Country Regionals on Saturday November 15 in Bronx, NY.
