Monacelli, McGann Record Hat Tricks In Loss At New Haven

The Central Connecticut State lacrosse team dropped its final road game of the season, falling 17-11 to NEC host New Haven. The Blue Devils fall to 1-13 on the year and 1-7 in league play, while the Chargers improve to 4-9 on the season and 3-5 in NEC action 

KEY MOMENTS 

• New Haven was the first to tally a goal, with Sophia Devaney scoring a man-down goal midway through the opening quarter 

• Another man-down tally, from Helena Dunwoody, gave the Chargers a 2-0 advantage with 94 seconds left in the opening period 

• Amaya Monacelli put CCSU on the board with an unassisted goal with seven ticks left in the first 

• New Haven scored four times in the first six minutes of the second quarter, opening a 6-1 advantage 

• Monacelli began a Blue Devil comeback with a goal from the pass of Kaitlin Flynn with 8:45 to play in the half 

• Grace McGann tallied back-to-back goals, 13 seconds apart, to bring CCSU with 6-4 and Monacelli completed her hat trick at the 6:24 mark of the second quarter to draw within a tally 

• New Haven scored four consecutive goals to end the half taking a 10-5 lead into intermission 

• The Chargers scored first int he third quarter, before Monacelli scored back-to-back goals, the second with 9:19 to play in the quarter to bring CCSU within four, 11-7 

• Again, the Chargers strung three goals together, before Isabella Raffone scored an 8-meter tally with 1:06 left in the third to send the game to the final period with New Haven on top, 14-8 

• The Chargers scored three straight to open the final period, taking an 17-8 lead with 6:50 to play 

• McGann notched her third of the game with 6:0 mark, for her hat trick, and after a Raffone tally, scored with 1:28 to play to round out the scoring 

NOTES & NUMBERS 

• The five goals is a career-high for Monacelli, who now has five hat tricks for the year 

• McGann also recorded her fifth career hat trick her fourth in five games, finishing with four tallies  

• Raffone's goals are the first of her CCSU career 

• Ellie Guitsch had five of the Blue Devils 15 ground balls and caused two turnovers 

• Six other Blue Devils had a caused turnover each 

• Katie Hurlburt finished the day with five draw controls and three assists 

• Gabby Hutchinson stopped nine shots in goal on the afternoon 

• Caitlin Seleny led New Haven with seven assists 

• The Blue Devils committed only 11 turnovers in the game 

• Both teams converted one 8-meter shot for a goal

• The Blue Devils close out the 2026 campaign at Arute Field on Saturday, April 25th when they host Le Moyne. Game time is 1:00pm, and the contest will be proceeded by a ceremony honoring the CCSU seniors.
