Mike Smith enters his first season on head coach Jeff McInerney's coaching staff. Smith will serve as recruiting coordinator and running backs coach. While also over seeing special teams for the Blue Devils.
Smith spent the past three seasons as the recruiting coordinator at Gannon College. During that time his recruits helped take the program from a 1-10 record to back-to-back winning seasons. He also worked with wide receivers, running backs and defensive backs at different points during his time at Gannon.
During the 2008 season, Smith was in charge of the Offensive Quality Control at NCAA Division I Indiana University.
Prior to his stay at Indiana, Smith served as the running backs coach and assisted with academic support at the University of Findlay in 2007.
As a player at Miami, Smith was the Mid-American Conference scoring leader from his running back position during the 2003 campaign. A member of two MAC Championship teams, Smith rushed for over 1,300 career yards and scored 28 touchdowns for the Red Hawks.
