Blue Devils Run at NCAA Northeast Regionals
Junior Ry Sanderson placed 40th out of 239 runners and the Central Connecticut men's cross country finished 29th out of 33 teams at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships on Saturday. Sanderson timed in at 33:09 on the 10 kilometer course in Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, NY.
The Blue Devils totaled 780 points in the race, 18 points behind 28th place Hofstra and 124 points ahead of 30th place Niagra. Other top finishers for CCSU were sophomore Robert Weston in 169th place, finishing in a time of 36:02, as well as freshmen Jeremy Schmid, Dan Watson and Sam Alexander. Schmid placed 187th, crossing the line in 36:38, while Watson and Alexander were also under 37 minutes. The former placed 191st in a time of 36:49, while the latter finished in 192nd in 36:56.
Iona won the team event, placing three harriers in the top five and totaling just 46 points. The Gaels beat out second place Providence by 42 points. Columbia, Dartmouth and Syracuse rounded out the top five teams in competition.
Iona's Mohamed Khadraoui took home the individual title with a time of 31:11.
This meet concluded the CCSU men's cross country season. With
all seven of the top Blue Devils runners returning, the 2009 season
looks promising for Central Connecticut.
