Alexander and Hunt Earn Weekly Honors

Sophomore Sam Alexander and freshman Craig Hunt received a pair of Northeast Conference weekly honors for their performances at the Blue Devil Invitational on Saturday. Alexander was named Road Runner Sports/NEC Co-Athlete of the Week, while Hunt garnered Rookie of the Week honors. It marks the first time either athlete has received accolades from the conference.

Alexander was rewarded for his first collegiate victory. On Saturday he out-sprinted a Holy Cross competitor to win CCSU's first meet of the year by one-tenth of a second. Alexander finished the eight kilometer course at New Britain's Stanley Quarter Park in a time of 26 minutes and 14.62 seconds.

In the first race of his career, Hunt ran to a fifth place finish at Saturday's invitational. The freshman finished the course in 26 minutes and 42.30 seconds and was the first freshman to cross the line in the race.

Alexander, Hunt and the rest of the CCSU team will next compete on Saturday September 19 at Quinnipiac.
