CCSU Takes 2nd at Quinnipiac Invitational

Sophomore Sam Alexander and freshman Craig Hunt placed third and sixth overall, as the Central Connecticut State University men's cross country team took second out of 11 teams at the Quinnipiac Invitational on Saturday. Alexander finished the eight kilometer course in 26 minutes and 5.1 seconds, just under 13 seconds behind Monmouth's Pete Forgach.

Sacred Heart placed five runners in the top 18 and finished with a total of 58 points to win the team championship. CCSU took second with 88 points, just seven ahead of third place Monmouth. Yale and Wagner rounded out the top five with scores of 121 and 125, respectively.

Hunt finished the course in 26:21.1 and was the second freshman to cross the line, behind Long Island's Rogers Kipruto, who took second overall. Sophomore Dan Watson and junior Robert Weston finished in 27:04.1 (21st) and 27:10.4 (26th), respectively to help lead the Blue Devils. Sophomore Kevin Tiernan rounded out CCSU's top five, placing 38th in a time of 27:22.7.

Central will next host the Ted owen Invitational at Stanley Quarter Park on Saturday September 26.
