The Northeast Conference named Central Connecticut junior Sam Alexander men's cross country Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. Alexander captures the honor after placing second at the Ted Owen Invitational. Alexander led a Blue Devil squad which posted several strong individual performances in route to a team victory.
The Waterford, Connecticut native finished the eight kilometer course at Stanley Quarter Park in 25:53, just inches ahead of teammate Ry Sanderson. Alexander was the first runner from the Northeast Conference to cross the finish line.
Alexander and Sanderson finished second and third, leading a Blue Devil squad which placed four runners in the top-10 at Saturday's meet. The host Blue Devils defeated a very talented Northeastern team by a single point winning the meet, 29-30.
Alexander and the Blue Devils return to action October 9th, at the New England Cross Country Championships.
