Central Connecticut senior Ry Sanderson was named Northeast Conference Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. The men's cross country standout earned the honor after finishing fourth at the New England Championships on Saturday. His performance led the Blue Devils to a third place finish out of 47 teams at the meet.
Sanderson has only competed twice this season earning a top-5 finish both times he has raced. After a third place finish two weeks ago at the Ted Owen Invitational, Sanderson ran 24:33 this past weekend to finish fourth. His fourth place finish at the meet also earned him All-New England recognition.
The Blue Devils third place finish was also fueled by strong performances from junior Sam Alexander and sophomore Craig Hunt. Alexander finished seventh and hunt 14th, both were also recognized as All-New England for their performances at the meet.
The Blue Devils return to action in two weeks at the CCSU Mini Meet, that meet will be the Central's final tune up before they host the NEC Championships on October 30th.
