Blue Devils Win the Mini Meet, Hunt Breaks Course Record
The Central Connecticut men's cross country team continued its strong season with a win at the CCSU Mini Meet. Sophomore Craig Hunt broke the Stanley Park men's 5K course record with his 14:55 performance. Junior Sam Alexander's time of 15:06 was also under the previous course record.
At last years meet Mike Anderson of Providence College set the men's 5K record for Stanley Park with a time of 15:09. Hunt bested the previous mark by 14 seconds, and Alexander by three. The one-two finish for Hunt and Alexander led the Blue Devils to the team victory.
Sophomore Jon Krell (15:21), junior Anthony Gonsalves (15:23), and junior Jeremy Schmid (15:25) finished five-six-seven to lock up the victory for the Blue Devils. The Blue Devils finished 72 points ahead of second place finisher Sacred Heart.
In all the Blue Devils placed seven runners in the top ten with sophomore Mohamed Hrezi (15:30) and junior Kevin Tiernan (15:34) finishing ninth and tenth.
The Blue Devils will host the Northeast Conference Championships next Saturday at Stanley Park. The women's 5K will begin at 11 a.m. and the men's 8K will follow at noon.
