Alexander Named NEC Athlete of the Week

Senior Sam Alexander finished third at the New England Championships on Saturday, on Tuesday he was named NEC Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his performance.

Senior Sam Alexander was named Northeast Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.  Alexander finished third at the 2011 New England Cross Country Championships on Saturday, helping the Blue Devils to a 14th place finish.

Alexander completed the 8K course at Franklin Park in Boston, MA, in 24:39 on Saturday.  In addition to being the first Blue Devil across the finish line, Alexander was also the NEC's top runner at the meet.  His 2011 time was nine seconds faster than his 2010 mark.

In 2010, Alexander finished second at the NEC Championships, behind fellow Blue Devil Ry Sanderson.

Alexander becomes the third Central runner to earn the NEC honors this season.  Juniors John Krell and Craig Hunt have both been recognized this year.

The Blue Devils will return to action on October 21, when they host the CCSU Mini Meet.  That event will be the final tune-up for the Blue Devils before the Northeast Conference Championships.
